Welcome to the DWI webpage. As you navigate through the various links, it is our hope that you will find the information you are looking for related to DWI offenses, treatment, recovery and prevention.
For those individuals who have been charged with or convicted of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, OASAS now compiles and maintains an authorized listing of agencies and professionals who are qualified to provide screening, assessment, and treatment. Vehicle and Traffic Law 1198-a now authorizes OASAS to maintain the provider list. An application packet is available to qualified professionals who want to be included on the approved DWI Screening and Assessment Provider List.
The DWI Local Services Bulletin is available to inform the provider community of OASAS policy regarding the application of recent changes to New York State law. The changes pertain to the screening, assessment, and treatment of persons charged with or convicted of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
OUT-OF-STATE RESIDENTS - Out-of-State residents arrested in NYS, but seeking treatment in their state of residence can receive a screening and/or an assessment from agencies licensed, certified or approved by their state substance abuse agency. The National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Programs, which contains a comprehensive list of state-approved agencies, is maintained by the Substance Abuse and Mental health Services Administration and may be accessed at http://findtreatment.samhsa.gov.
To secure standardized screening instruments, you must be an approved provider currently on the OASAS DWI Screening and Assessment Provider Listing. Please contact the OASAS Criminal Justice Unit via email at DWI@oasas.state.ny.us to make your request. Include your provider information as it appears on the OASAS DWI Screening and Assessment Provider Listing. Someone from the OASAS Criminal Justice Unit will contact you.
