Employers of Mandated Reporters: Clandestine Methamphetamine Laboratory Brochure

Link to How to Recognize the Signs of a Clandestine Methamphetamine Laboratory (Brochure)

New York State recognizes the potential threat to our public health and safety posed by the use and manufacture of the illegal and highly addictive drug methamphetamine which is rapidly growing in many parts of our country.

The physical effects of the drug on users are debilitating and sometimes irreversible. The methods of manufacturing methamphetamine are extremely dangerous and pose a serious hazard to anyone in or near the location where it is being produced. The making of methamphetamine frequently happens in homes, apartments, trailers, barns, other outbuildings, and sometimes in cars or even in the open. These "clandestine labs" also pose a severe danger to children, neighbors, first responders, social workers, and others who may unknowingly enter the lab and suffer injuries after being exposed to the toxic chemicals.

Accurate and relevant information, tailored to the specific needs of different audiences with a stake in combating the many dangers of methamphetamine, can be a most effective tool in preventing the spread of use and negative consequences of production.

With this in mind, OASAS is in the process of establishing this site to serve as the primary source of public information and available education on methamphetamine for residents of New York State. It is intended to be a user-friendly, one-stop catalogue, listing the best information and sources of training currently available, both within New York and across the nation. It will focus on the major methamphetamine related topics of interest. The site will also list those specific materials germane to audiences with unique needs such a mandated reporters, police, fire fighters, ambulance personnel, and others.

This site is intended to be a “living” site, growing and responding to our changing knowledge, skills sets, and special needs. Please feel free to comment on any aspect of the site, ask questions, identify additional information needs, and make suggestions for additions, deletions, or updates.
