OASAS Sponsored Free Regional Trainings

Motivational Interviewing

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services’ (OASAS) will conduct a 12 hour training entitled “Motivational Interviewing”. Training hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the first date of each training. This training will allow addiction professionals to familiarize themselves with Motivational Interviewing (MI) concepts and techniques in addition to recent updates for those familiar with Motivational Interviewing.

This training meets established standards for 12 hours of Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC Section 2), Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP Section 4), and Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS Renewal only) education and training. Participants are required to attend the full 12 hours of training to receive a certificate of completion. There will be no tuition charge for this training.

Substance Abuse Treatment for Persons with Co-Occurring Disorders

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services’ (OASAS) will conduct a 12 hour training entitled “Substance Abuse Treatment for Persons with Co-Occurring Disorders.” The overall goal is to provide an introduction to the content of TIP 42 to utilize as a vehicle to support quality co-occurring disorder treatment in both substance abuse and mental health settings.This training will occur on April 28-29, 2010 at Student Assistance Services, 660 White Plains Road, Tarrytown, New York.  Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on April 28th. The training hours on both days will be 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

This training opportunity will support the work of the NYS OASAS and the NYS Office of Mental Health Co-Occurring Disorders Task Force. This Task Force met in 2007 and made specific recommendations for improving the way patients’ access mental health and substance abuse services in each setting.In keeping with that spirit, we are seeking to obtain a participant audience with equal representation from both settings.
